Hearing Conservation Program

Loud noise is present in many workplace spaces and has the potential to permanently impact hearing when the proper precautions are not taken. The CMU, EHS Hearing Conservation Program sets guidelines to prevent such hearing loss caused by exposure to elevated noise levels in the workplace.  Some of the guidelines covered include:

  • Noise exposure monitoring
  • Audiometric testing
  • Hearing protection selection
  • Employee training
  • Recordkeeping

Training on the contents of this program and additional information on the effects of noise on hearing, is available on SciShield under the “Training” section.

Requests for noise monitoring may be directed to EHS.
